Accommodation

Cabins: Our 3 new cabins are simple, warm bunk rooms with great natural light. Each cabin is split in half, with 6 beds in each half, sleeping 36 in total. We also have a separate accessible bunk area, suitable for wheelchair users.

Tents: We have a large camping area available by the stream for groups who wish to bring their own tents. This is a great way to experience being outdoors in a comfortable environment. The camping area is located a short walk from the main facilities and the path is fully lit at night.

Shelters: All groups will have the opportunity to venture into the bush and build their own shelters to sleep in for one or more nights. Challenge yourself to make your shelter waterproof (or use one of our tarpaulins) and experience the natural beauty of the bush at night.

Kitchen

Image

Kitchen: This is the beating heart of the Bush Centre. Students will prepare, cook and eat all their meals here. This is an open double-bay shed with a wood-fired water heater, generous food preparation areas and large sinks. The kitchen is fully equipped, with all the pots and pans you will need for the week.

Stoves: All of the cooking is done on wood-fired "rocket stoves", located inside the kitchen. This requires students to work in teams to split firewood, stoke the fire to the right temperature and cook meals efficiently.

Outdoor fires: A big part of being at Rangimarie is slowing down. Bread making is a great example of a slow activity - the dough must be left to rise whilst the fire is built up. A tripod is constructed to hold the Dutch oven at just the right height. The bread must be cooked slowly over an even heat to avoid burning. Delicious!

Catering

Image

Food: When you come to stay at Rangimarie, we will supply all your food and organise a nutritious and tasty menu that is suitable for cooking on open fires. Fresh fruit and veg can be harvested by the students from the garden when available.

Dietary requirements: We can cater for any dietary requirements, and will ask you to confirm your group's requirements before you arrive.

Toilets & showers

Toilets We have full-flush toilets using an environmentally friendly worm digesting waste system!

Showers: We have hot water showers available, including a wheel-in accesible shower for wheelchair users. However, we challenge groups to heat their own water in the wood-fired cylinder and use our gorgeous outdoor showers! The stream is also crystal-clear and offers a good place to cool down on a hot summers day.
