Join us in our beautiful rural location to practise observing and drawing. We'll blend observational exercises with relaxed sketching sessions—capturing everything from trees, leaves, and sweeping vistas to your coffee cup, the campfire, maybe even the eels!
Some of our time will be centered around the barn, our base, where we’ll focus on learning to really look at things and gaining familiarity with the drawing materials. We'll also venture into the bush and paddocks to put our skills into practice in our sketchbooks, immersed in nature. We will make some charcoal on the fire and use it for drawing. Come prepared to be outdoors, with appropriate clothing and footwear.
This is suitable for all skill levels. Beginners can start with the basics and explore different materials, while more experienced artists can focus on observing the natural world, trying some new exercises and refining their skills.
This course is held in conjunction with our Introduction to Blacksmithing course, and we will all be together for a shared lunch. We can cater for all dietary requirements.

Many people develop the belief that they "can't draw" and that drawing is something only those with "more talent" can do. However, I believe that anyone who can hold a pen and write their name is able to draw.
Improving my drawing hasn’t been about “talent” or stressing over “getting it right.” Instead, both I and the people I’ve taught have approached drawing with a playful, curious mindset and a willingness to try different exercises. This approach has not only made the process more enjoyable but also led to better drawings!
I am an experienced drawing tutor and have taught people of all ages. Drawing is a personal journey; I will not teach you to draw in a particular way, but help you find your own ways of observing and drawing.
